Effects of Sunghyangjunggisan Extract on the Intracranial Pressure and Blood Pressure in Rabbits

Abstract
To elucidate objectively the clinical effect of Sunghyangjunggisan frequently used as emergency treatment in the primary stage of C. V. A., the influence of Sunghyangjunggisan on the pressor responcce to raised ICP by infusing saline into a balloon placed in the epidural space was invesstigated in urethane ahesthetized rabbits, the results were as follws;
1. The blood pressure increased in parallel with the raised ICP which was made by infusing saline into a balloon.
2. The decrease of ICP and BP was observed after the administration of Sunghyangjunggisan.
3. Atropine did not affect the decrease of ICP and BP induced by Sunghyangjunggisan.
4.The decrease ICP and BP by Sunghyangjunggisan was significantly inhibited by pretreated Regitine.
5. Propranolol did not affect the decrease of ICP and BP induced by Sunghyangjunggisan.
6. Cyproheptadine did not affect the decrease of ICP and BP induced by Sunghyangjunggisan.
These results show that Sunghyangjunggisan influenced adrenergic ¥á-receptor to decrease ICP and that Sunghyangjunggisan may be used in the treatment of several symptoms induced by the raised ICP in the emergency stage of C. V. A.
